Bergheim

The village
Bergheim is a beautifully preserved fortified village of about 2,900 inhabitants on the Alsace Wine Route (source: The Ultimate Alsace Wine Route Itinerary ⭐️ 2026 Map.md). It has narrow streets lined with half-timbered houses and flower-filled courtyards, dominated by the imposing Haut-Koenigsbourg castle on the hillside above; don't miss the ramparts walk, a complete circuit of the medieval walls with panoramic vineyard views (source).
It was voted “Village préféré des Français” in 2022 (see Most Beautiful Villages of France (and "Village préféré")) and is quieter than Riquewihr. Its Grand Cru Altenberg de Bergheim is one of the few allowed to make blends (Alsace Grand Cru), and the pioneering terroir estate Domaine Marcel Deiss is based here (see Alsace Wineries); Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg looms on the hillside above (source: compass_artifact_wf-755602f0...).
