Blangerval (Blangerval-Blangermont)

Blangerval-Blangermont is a small farming commune in the Pas-de-Calais department (Hauts-de-France), about 40 km west of Arras on the D109 (source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blangerval-Blangermont). It is the historic seat of the du Chastel-de-Blangerval family in Mary's Casteel / du Chastel Family of Blangerval line (source: Holley-family.pdf).
What's there
This is a quiet rural village, not a tourist destination — the appeal is purely ancestral. Points of interest (source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blangerval-Blangermont; francethisway.com):
- Église Saint-Jacques (18th century) and the 20th-century Église Saint-Pierre
- The du Chastel family crest is incorporated into the village coat of arms
- A WWII relic: the Germans built a V1 rocket launch pad here; remains of the concrete pad and access road survive
- Nearby gardens worth a stop if making the trip: Les Jardins de Séricourt (~7 km), Jardin des Lianes (~14 km)
Getting there
There is no rail service; Blangerval needs a car (source: francethisway.com). Reference points: ~39 km from Arras, ~7 km from Frévent, with Saint-Pol-sur-Ternoise as the canton seat. From Paris it is roughly 2h43 / 225 km via the A16, and on to Épernay in Champagne roughly 2h46 / 243 km via the A26 (source: Google Maps routing, Jun 2026) — the Day 1 shape of the car-loop itinerary. The practical approach is to base in Lille or Arras (both reachable by train from Reims) and drive out. See Casteel / du Chastel Family of Blangerval for routing.
