Burgundy Wineries

How visiting works in Burgundy — the reservation reality, plus the Beaune négociant houses that welcome visitors.

The key truth: Burgundy (Bourgogne) is not Napa or Bordeaux. Most domaines are tiny family operations that don't take walk-ins, and the most prestigious (Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, etc.) do not accept visitors at all. Appointments are essential; the easiest wins are the big négociant houses in Beaune and a few visitor-oriented estates (source: compass_artifact_wf-5af489e6...).

§ 02Tasting etiquette & fees

Tasting etiquette & fees

Reserve well ahead (weeks for small domaines; far ahead for harvest/November). Unlike Champagne or Alsace, Burgundy increasingly charges tasting fees (~€15–45). English is widely spoken in Beaune's wine trade. Use the crachoir (spittoon) if driving — France's blood-alcohol limit is low (0.05%) (source: compass_artifact_wf-5af489e6...).

For the party's special interest, the visitor-friendly Crémant de Bourgogne house Louis Bouillot — "La Verrière" is in Nuits-Saint-Georges.

Yelp barely operates in France, so treat the official site + TripAdvisor + Google Maps as the practical links here; the Yelp search link is kept for completeness. All search links are pre-encoded.
