Cannonau

Sardinia's name for Grenache — intensely leathery with a twinkle of strawberry; "the perfect pizza wine."

A picturesque vineyard with mountains and dramatic clouds under a clear sky.

Cannonau is Sardegna's (Sardinia's) name for Grenache. The wines are unlike any Grenache you'll have anywhere else, with intense leathery flavors and the twinkle of strawberry fruit. "Cannonau is the perfect pizza wine" (source: European Wine Exploration Map _ Wine Folly.pdf).

Grenache also anchors the blends of the Rhône Valley (Rhône Blends); for the same island-Italy spirit, see Nero d'Avola (Sicily) and Primitivo (Puglia).
