Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg

The site
Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg is the region's most-visited site, a restored medieval fortress at 757 m above Orschwiller, with 360° panoramas over the Alsace plain, the Vosges, and the Black Forest (the Alps on clear days) (source: compass_artifact_wf-755602f0...). It looms above Bergheim and the central wine villages.
Getting there is by car, by shuttle from Sélestat (April–November), or on foot via vineyard-and-forest trails from Saint-Hippolyte, Châtenois, or Ribeauvillé/Thannenkirch (source). Note: a multi-year renovation began in summer 2024 — some areas may be closed, so check access before visiting (source: compass_artifact_wf-755602f0...).
