Muscadet

The lean, dry, salty white of the western Loire — "the anti-fruit wine, and proudly so."

Muscadet is a completely different animal from other light whites: lean, dry and salty, with savory aromas of lager beer and sea shells. It is "the anti-fruit wine, and proudly so," and it almost makes a better pairing with raw fish than sake (source: European Wine Exploration Map _ Wine Folly.pdf). Wine Folly counts it among Europe's great everyday drinking wines (source: European Wine Exploration Map _ Wine Folly.pdf).

Muscadet comes from the Atlantic end of the Loire Valley, near Nantes (general knowledge — region not named in the source; needs verification). The Loire's other entry in the map is Loire Sauvignon Blanc (Sancerre & Pouilly-Fumé) (Sancerre / Pouilly-Fumé), at the opposite, inland end of the river.
