Alsace Wine Route by Car (Source Summary)

A detailed 5-day driving itinerary by Elisa (Travel France Bucket List) (published 2019-09-12) for the Alsace Wine Route. Unlike the Winalist itinerary (Strasbourg→Colmar), this one runs Colmar → Riquewihr → Obernai → Strasbourg, ~104.5 km total, in the Grand Est region (source: Alsace Wine Route by Car – Itinerary & Map.md).
> Contradiction with the Winalist source: this article bounds the route between Marlenheim and Thann, whereas Winalist describes it as Strasbourg to Colmar. The official Route des Vins endpoints (Marlenheim–Thann) match this source (source: Alsace Wine Route by Car – Itinerary & Map.md).
Day-by-day
- Day 0 — Arrive Colmar (3 nights at Hotel Le Colombier, Little Venice).
- Day 1 — Colmar: Old Town walking loop, Unterlinden & Bartholdi museums, Museum of Alsatian Wines.
- Day 2 — Eguisheim day trip: concentric village + Three Castles hike on Schlossberg Hill.
- Day 3 — Kaysersberg (Domaine Bernard Haas, Domaine Kirrenbourg) then Riquewihr (overnight, Hotel à l'Oriel).
- Day 4 — Géovino Trail hike to Hunawihr, then Obernai, on to Strasbourg.
- Day 5 — Strasbourg: cathedral, Petite-France, Cave des Hospices.
Wine notes
Alsace wines are aromatic, floral, and spicy, with little oak and pure varietal character; producers welcome visitors during harvest (Sept–Nov) and usually speak French, German, and English (source: Alsace Wine Route by Car – Itinerary & Map.md). See Alsace Grape Varieties.
