The village

Vougeot is a tiny village (153 residents, 2022 census) built around the Château du Clos de Vougeot, the 12th-century Cistercian vat-house — now a museum and seat of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin — ringed by its 50.6-hectare Grand Cru, split among 80+ owners and the iconic photo-op on the Route des Grands Crus (Côte d'Or) (source: compass_artifact_wf-5af489e6...; vougeot-research.md). The château hosts the Saturday-evening gala of Les Trois Glorieuses.

Because the château doesn't make wine, taste inside the walls at Château de la Tour (the only domaine that does everything within them) and in the village at Domaine Bertagna. The marquee stay is Les Sources de Vougeot — the landmark former Château de Gilly, reopened February 2026 with a Caudalie spa — while the village itself offers the simple Hôtel de Vougeot facing the clos (source: vougeot-research.md).

Our notesThe picture-postcard Grand Cru

A single walled vineyard, its Cistercian château, and the Confrérie make this the most photographed clos in Burgundy. The village is tiny — base here but draw on the neighbouring villages for dining and lodging.

For the château and the iconic clos.
